OGL are an IT and cyber security services provider based in Kidderminster. They design, deliver and support the IT backbone of hundreds of businesses across the region. With ambitious expansion plans, they acknowledged that they needed to recruit new salespeople to achieve their goals but noticed a gap in the tech sales talent market.

Intequal and OGL teamed up to launch one of the first Technical Sales Apprenticeship schemes for SME businesses in the Midlands and Lee Reece, Head of New Business, exclaimed they were “very excited to be a part of it!”

How do apprenticeships help OGL attract new talent?

OGL value local home-grown talent, so apprenticeships provide a great way for them to harness fresh ideas and bring people on board who want to learn about their business from the ground up.

Lee explained, “I joined the business through a similar scheme almost 20 years ago... We have always found that developing our own people from the ground up is extremely successful, but the market is getting more competitive so having this opportunity to partner with Intequal who has worked with the likes of Fujitsu, Vodafone, Microsoft and Atos is fantastic.”

Emma Porter, Head of HR at OGL, continued, “Sales has always been a very competitive industry and finding people with the right skills who want to make sales their long-term career choice has been getting more difficult. Knowing that apprenticeships have worked well for us in other areas made it the obvious route for us to address the skills gap in sales.”

Why did OGL choose to work with Intequal?

Intequal’s specialist teams work closely with employers and industry bodies to ensure training is of a high standard and content relevant and up-to-date with technological advances. Emma said that this a key reason they chose to work with Intequal for their apprenticeship delivery; “Intequal can [help us address the skills gap in sales] whilst also ensuring our recruits will gain knowledge around our IT and software products and services at the same time.”

As a Microsoft Silver Learning Partner delivering digital and IT apprenticeship training, Intequal help over 300 people every year start or develop their career in tech. “Intequal’s pedigree speaks for itself,” Emma said, “and we are thrilled to be working with them.”
